Description
Plant materials have been used in textile dyeing throughout recorded history. Our
beginner friendly plant-based kit serves as a safe and low impact introduction to the
exciting world of textile dyeing.
Containing two all-cotton bandanas, and enough plant material to dye them two different
colours, this kit is vegan friendly, and makes a great craft project to do with children.
Inside our compostable box, you will find muslin bags of Calendula flowers, and dried
Nettle. The muslin bags themselves are dyeable as well.
When used with cellulose fibers such as cotton, natural plant dye materials produce
gentle muted colours. Calendula will produce pale buttery yellows, and Nettle will result
in mossy or spring greens.
We like to use our hand-dyed bandanas as cloth napkins. They add a lovely personal
touch to any table.
Your new dye kit will contain the following carefully sourced ingredients:
- One instruction booklet
- Two cotton bandanas
- Two bags dried Nettle
- Two bags of calendula flowers
- One envelope alum (mordant)
While this kit uses only natural ingredients, the dye baths are heated on the stove, and
children should be supervised while using these materials.
