Description
Our Basic Wool Dye Kit has been thoughtfully curated to introduce novice dyers to the
ancient art of natural dyeing. Stocked with two batts of cream coloured wool roving
produced by our very own flock of Icelandic Sheep, this kit contains two different dye
materials. The leaves and petals of the Calendula flower will produce shades from pale
lemon to golden yellow. Deep burgundy cochineal powder is derived from the
unassuming looking Cochineal Beetle, and has been used by indigenous people as a
dye for thousands of years. Even tiny quantities of cochineal will produce lovely shades
of pinks and fuchsias.
Sustainability and intention are very important to us here at the Mill, so your kit will
come packaged in a fully compostable box, and the muslin bags containing your plant
material are themselves dyeable in your leftover dye baths.
